Ordering repeat prescriptions
We typically process repeat prescription requests within two working days. If you have setup a nominated pharmacy, the approved prescription will be sent directly to pharmacy that you have nominated.
You can find the nearest pharmacy to your location on this NHS.uk site.
There are a few ways to order your medication and change your nominated pharmacy:
- Online using the NHS App: to register or find out more information please click here. You can view items that are on your repeat medication list and order them directly from us. You can view and edit your nominated pharmacy in the NHS App. After ordering, you can see the status of your prescription order with the practice, so can tell when it will be with the pharmacy you have nominated.
- By posting your request to the practice.
- In writing at the practice reception desk.
- Contacting your nominated pharmacy directly to order your medication on your behalf to the surgery.
You cannot order medication by telephone to the surgery.
To enable staff to process your prescription requests it is important to request your medication two to three working days before you are due to run out.
It will take 48 hours for the practice to organise your prescription.
Your monitoring and issuing requires time to be checked, issued and signed; this is for safety and best practice.
If however you have run out of your medication please telephone and speak to a member of staff.
Please remember if you are overdue your annual check or other monitoring, repeat dispensing will be unable to continue.
Please allow 48 hours, excluding weekends and Bank Holidays, for your request to be processed.
Collecting your prescription
You can usually collect your prescription from the pharmacy 3 to 5 working days after you have ordered it.
You will need to choose a pharmacy to collect your prescription from. We call this nominating a pharmacy.
You can change your nominated pharmacy at any time:
- on the app or website where you order repeat prescriptions
- at your GP practice
- at any pharmacy that accepts repeat prescriptions
